Vaillant trains future Remscheid city managers

The city of Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia, and the Vaillant management consultancy Vaillant Consulting GmbH (VAICON) in Remscheid have launched an advanced training programme for its future local government managers. Fourteen out of 40 municipal employee candidates were selected for the course at an assessment centre in November last year. Vaillant trainers will now prepare them for their future management tasks from this month to the end of 2007 in various training courses, workshops and projects.
"In order to increase the efficiency of the city management structures, and in view of our limited resources, it is especially important better to recognise and purposefully promote the managerial skills of our employees," said Beate Wilding, Mayoress of Remscheid. "So developing the management culture in the municipal administration means a lot to me." Speaking at a Press conference at Vaillant together with Bernd-Johannes Dziwis, HR Director of the Vaillant Group, VAICON Managing Director Andreas Braun, Remscheid HR department head Frank vom Scheidt, Roland Wagner (head of Remscheid HR Management), and the trainers Ralf Flosbach and Stefan Wahlich, she explained the training concept.
"Such cooperation between a municipal administration and a local company is certainly unusual and definitely has a model character," said Vaillant HR head Bernd-Johannes Dziwis. He said he saw manager development as the main factor for the success both of local authorities and companies. "We know, for example, how important the capability of motivation, project management and excellent managerial behaviour are for success, and we look forward to bringing to this project our many years of experience in the purposeful development of managers. It means we shall contribute to further improving in the long term the quality of the city's services for its citizens and thus in the end also to increasing the attractiveness of Remscheid."
Remscheid and VAICON have developed a programme which, based on their respective previous knowledge, will qualify the future managers in practical terms and regardless of their position. The content of the two-year part-time advanced training programme includes imparting management and leadership competencies, broadening communication skills, project management, process optimisation, resolving conflicts, moderation and presentation techniques, labour law, self-management and problem-solving and decision-making techniques. As part of additional practical tasks, the participants will work on current city administration improvement projects and be accompanied by experienced Vaillant trainers.
